Sofia Kendrick has always cherished her tiara. As the youngest daughter of a wealthy New York family, she’s lived the life of an American princess. But after two scandalous divorces and a breakup smear her name across the society rags, the shine from her crown has dulled. People call her superficial, even gaudy.
She’s nothing more than tinsel.
Desperate for escape and starving for peace, Sofia heads to Montana for a holiday weekend with her brother. But she doesn’t get the relaxing vacation she planned. Instead, she’s put to work in a bar alongside Dakota Magee—a man who does not want her help. A man who is set on teaching her a few lessons about real life and hard work. But Sofia has a couple of life lessons of her own to teach. Like how to fall in love.
To be honest, I wasn’t sure how Devney was going to have me come around to Sofia aka Logan’s younger sister, who we get quite acquainted with in Tattered. But my goodness, she did it and I was there for all of it. Devney is the reason why I love small-town romances so much. She definitely writes my favorites with how she weaves a beautiful and emotional story that you’ll always remember. We have two very different characters set on different paths all while hoping a path together would be one they can walk on with each other. Everything about Tinsel was perfect with the characters, story and most of all the timeline of events that Sofia and Dakota go through before they get their happy ever after.
With every story that Devney has put out in this series, they’re all unique and emotionally charged. She definitely has the ability to turn to love characters that I wasn’t exactly keen with aka Jackson and now, Sofia.
From the beginning, you got to admit that your heart hurts for Sofia and the lack of attention she received as a child. And all of that stayed with her until she became an adult and went through an eye-opening and embarrassing ordeal. Fleeing to Montana instantly was her best bet and is given the chance to find her purpose doing something she’s never done a day in her life; work.
Dakota begrudgingly takes on the “new employee” at the bar, the girl that has never had a job or worked, ever. With only 10 days together, he’s definitely not looking forward to it, but was pleasantly surprised to see how determined Sofia was to get something done or to just learn how to do things around the bar. He’s stunned and also can’t fight the insane attraction he has towards her.
I thoroughly loved watching these two together, the admiration runs easily between the both of them and there’s no denying the attraction that have towards each other. Not only do we get to see Sofia grow, little by little we see these two fall for each other. What started as a casual no-strings, they’re opening up to each other and feelings are getting stronger. But they both know that what they have has a deadline, there’s no future.
Sofia and Dakota both have personal things that they have to work through and Devney really puts us through the wringer as they try to figure it all out. I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen, but time just kept going by. It takes many months and my emotions were definitely not in check. Sooo many hurdles to get through, several tissues to dry my eyes and a heartbreaking and hopeful journey towards a path of love.
It’s really hard to pick a favorite in this series, but as whole the Lark Cove books have completely captured my heart, leaving me with stories that I’ll never forget. Sofia and Dakota were nothing like I’ve ever imagined, beauty and pain all tied into one. Every bit of their story is a beautiful one and one that so many will love and appreciate.
Major thanks to Inkslinger PR and Devney Perry for the advance reader’s copy!
