Review
I don’t even know where to begin! I am completely blown away by Jamie and Ryan’s story and wish that I could re-read for the first time. I’ve been on a bit of an Elle Kennedy kick and decided to dive into HIM before I finished the final book in her Off-Campus series. I had a 7 hour drive home and this book totally made the drive go by quickly. This was my first M/M read for the year, it has honestly been a long time since my last one, and this one was recommended so highly. I’m still raving about it and will soon be devouring book two in their duet, Us.
Oh my goodness, my mind is so blown away with this story! All expectations were just thrown out the window and it’s honestly leaving me a little speechless. Him was a mixture of all my favorites all in one, we got a bit of a friends-to-lovers, hockey/sports romance and a hot couple. All that muscle, you don’t have me complaining there. Not one bit.
I liked that there was a few different things going on. Along with being in the present, we get a bit of their past and what happened to Jamie and Ryan’s friendship. To me, I thought it was all completely understandable from Ryan’s point. The last summer they were together, it was a trying time for Ryan, he was figuring out his sexuality and I can only imagine everything that was going through his mind. One of my closest friends is gay and I remember talking about his experience and all that was just running through his mind, the fear, the confusion and so many other what-ifs. And then we have Jamie trying to figuring out these very new feelings and there’s nothing better than to explore all of that than with Ryan 😉
I loved Ryan almost instantly, it’s hard not to love the guy. I appreciated his character so much, he was true to himself and everyone. I loved his honesty about everything, he had nothing to hide, maybe his true feelings about Jamie because there was just so much uncertainty there.
Everything that Jamie was going through was just all very real, realizing what his sexuality was and that he was bi. But also had this infinite connection to his best friend that there was no denying. I loved that fact that yes, Ryan has always been in love with his best friend and that it was a bit of a slow burn for Jamie.
This story is completely flawless and this is my newest favorite author duo. Thank you for writing such a phenomenal story that I’ll never forget.
NARRATION: This was my first time listening to Teddy Hamilton as a narrator and second for Jacob Morgan. And I gotta say, I’m quite the fan. I loved them both equally. I just went and checked out the other books they narrate in, sign me up to listen to those 😉
