Almost twenty years after the barrier between Earth and the Otherworld fell in the Fae Wars, Budapest is balancing on the precipice. A battle for dominance is brewing between the elite fae and the privileged humans in Eastern Europe. The prejudice between the sides is bubbling with hate and violence.

Nineteen-year-old human, Brexley, has grown up in privilege, but not without heartbreak. After being orphaned, she is taken in by General Markos, living in a walled city rife with power grabs and ruthless political games. Then one night the course of her life changes, and Brexley is thrown into the most feared prison in the east. Halalhaz, the House of Death—where you go in but don’t come out.

She must learn to live with the worst of fae and human criminals. The rule of hierarchy puts humans on the bottom, where the only way to survive each day is to make alliances with the fae.

Here she meets the sexy, vicious legend, Warwick Farkas. A myth among man and fae. He is as brutal, cruel, arrogant, and as lethal as the lore says he is, ruling the prison with unchallenged authority. Brexley can’t deny an intense draw to him, one that might cost her life.

If The Games don’t take her out first—
A fight to the death where only one survives.

Review

I’ve been wanting to get to this series for a while, but just haven’t had the time. After my binge re-read of Darkness, Collector and Lightness series, I was ready to start the next series from this world but fast forward to the future. I snagged the audio and another series to get lost into was here.

Darkness of Light was my first book by Stacey and it’s been a insta-love for me since then. From her world building, the characters and the stories, I just love it all. And here we have Brexley and Warwick. Tons of intrigue and mystery behind the both of them, something I was quite eager to get to the bottom of.

I love this world and it was interesting to see from a completely different perspective. Brex goes through so damn much and you’ll be rooting for her the whole time. Someone who has grown up in a very privileged lifestyle and naive to the rest of the world around them. Tables are turned and she’s thrown into something she knows very little of. And it becomes a game of survival.

There’s no doubt how strong Brex is, but it’ll make you wonder if she’s more than human. There’s definitely a lot of draw and people seem to gravitate towards her.

There’s not a ton of romance in this one, there’s just a lot going on with that topic, but this is only book one. There’s plenty more to come and I can’t wait to learn more…especially the infamous Warwick. The tension is high between them and my goodness I’m just eager for more!

AUDIO: The narrator does a great job of bring everything through, you’ll definitely be wishing for a dual POV because it would be amazing to know what goes through Warwick’s mind. Be ready to be fully immersed and grab the audio.

Brexley has endured starvation and survived torture and even Warwick Farkas, the brutal legend who still haunts her like a ghost, spilling into her thoughts and life. His betrayal made her a prisoner of Killian, the gorgeous Fae Lord of Budapest.

There her life takes another unforeseen twist, something that will change the fragile alliance between the humans and the fae, and Brexley finds herself in the middle.

As weeks go by, Brexley also discovers Killian isn’t the malicious leader she was told about. As they spend more time together, their relationship begins to shift. However, when an old acquaintance turns up, she is given the chance to escape the sexy fae leader, and her entire world explodes.

Brexley is thrown into a nefarious web of politics, desire, betrayal, lies, and truths that will shatter her foundation and who she is, what she believes, and who can be trusted. No longer is there a clear line between good and bad.

Hunted by both sides, Brexley is on the run and must untangle all the lies, deceit, and deceptions, before she becomes another victim in the wild lands.

The saga continues in book 2 of the Savage Lands series. After the way things ended in book one, I am absolutely hurting for Brex and downright infuriated. Emotions are definitely high going into this especially since it seemed we were finally starting to make some kind of ground with Brex and Warwick. Seriously, my heart cannot handle this, but here we go anyways.

We’re already seeing a lot of development and growth when it comes to Brex, she has seen a lot and learned about things that were once unimaginable. The people she thought she could trust, she’s becoming hesitant about and now Warwick is very much one of them. I mean, he’s already got one strike me …

I’m loving all the heart-racing action and who knew the tension could get even higher than the last book, but it so very much does. Stacey has been teasing so bad when it comes to Brex and Warwick, I’m about to lose it! Yeah, I’m desperate … not even going to lie about that.

That’s why I love SMB’s books so much, the twists and turns, and you’ll be guessing from beginning to end. And you’ll also want possibly land one on the hero every now and then because he will literally drive you up the wall.

Keep it coming, can’t wait to devour the next one!

Kidnapped by the notorious rebel group, Provstat, Brexley finds her connection goes deeper than she ever imagined. Reunited with old acquaintances and an uncle she never knew, Brexley is thrown into the vicious world of politics, where human and fae leaders will do anything to come out on top. Here dangerous associations and meticulous plots are far more dangerous and cutthroat than any game she survived in Halálház.

If her life wasn’t complicated enough, her relationship with the infamous legend is growing stronger. The more she tries to untangle the link between Warwick and her, the thicker it wraps around them both, entwining them in a world between life and death, where brutal passion and fury collide.

When whispers of a coveted magical substance, called the nectar, start buzzing louder, Brexley’s strange bond to the fae book leads her on an unexpected journey. One that brings her closer to the answers she seeks.

But once she opens the door, all the secrets and lies of her past come flooding out.

Truths she’s not ready to face.

And betrayals that cut bone deep.

Review

The plot thickens in this one, you’ll learn a bunch of new things and have way more questions than you started off with. And since Stacey just announced that there will be 6 books in the series so far, you know that more is to come. Gahhhhhhhh, I just hope I can make it out!

I’ll start off with AT LAST, I’ve been waiting too damn long when it comes to Brex and Warwick. I was about to start yelling and saying FORGET ABOUT HIM. I haven’t seen a hero push back so hard as Warwick does, I know he has his reasons for it, but now he has to face all these new things head-on. At the moment, I’m pretty happy where things are with them, but I just know the rug is going to get pulled from under us.

Brex continues to go through the wringer and I’m actually a little nervous to see how it’ll unfold before the end. I know it’s something big that’ll absolutely stop my heart. And I don’t think anyone will be mentally ready for it. There’s a bigger power at play and we just barely touched the surface with the conclusion of this book.

This series and book have been a wild around, and I’m constantly on my toes wondering. See, this is what happens when you binge a series that’s not complete. Not too long before book 4 comes out.
