Quick note : Before I start my review, I would just like to apologize for the nearly 3 month delay of reviewing, I’m so ashamed. It’s definitely going to take some time to get in a routine of reviewing books more often. I go through so many books in a week and I know that I have more than enough time to do reviews! So here’s to the 2013, I’m making it a personal goal to review books as soon as I read them!
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.

Where do I even begin with this book?! I had no idea about this book, when it was first suggested to me, all that I knew was that it fell under the paranormal genre.
Katy is a passionate book blogger (just one of the many reasons why I loved this book) with a bit of an attitude! And she is definitely not afraid to talk back, she’s got a little bit of a bite. And no one more than her neighbor, Daemon Black, has the gift of constantly bringing it out of her! Lets just say, Daemon Black is HORRIBLE with first impressions.
“I’d always avoided confrontation in the past, but this guy was flipping my bitch switch like nothing else.”
Throughout this entire book, it’s constant back and forth between Katy and Daemon and there were quite a few times where you’re left thinking, “Oh my gosh! I can’t believe he said that to her! What a dick!”, well at least that’s how it was for me. Yes, Daemon has a bit of a temper and can be a bit moody sometimes, but he means well, you may not believe it throughout most of the book, but he’ll come around for you, trust me. As you follow along in Katy’s mind, she notices that things and people (mainly her gorgeous neighbor) around town are a bit “odd” and she can’t get het finger on it.
Katy’s world gets turned upside down, when she’s attacked by a stranger demanding answers.
“Where are they?”
Whoever they were, Katy was at lost about what it could mean. During her attack, it wasn’t long until her ‘not-so-charming knight’ came to the rescue, but what she witnessed was something that she had no explanation for; flashing lights, quick movements that’s not humanly impossible? And it didn’t take her long to figure out the truth of who they were; aliens? Yep, you heard right!
Since learning the truth, she starts to see why Daemon was constantly pushing her away and well being such a dick to her. Their relationship in this first book has some serious sexual tension and very little is done about it.
“Daemon’s stare was so concentrated I took an unintentional step back, but we didn’t break eye contact. A craving unfurled deep in my stomach, shooting through me like heated lightning, and that— that was the kind of feeling you couldn’t force, couldn’t even replicate if you wanted.”
When this book was first suggested to me, I never knew it was about aliens, shoot I didn’t even know such paranormal romance series existed! And I know all of us, who hear the word ‘alien’, we think of what we’ve seen on television, weird shaped heads, very big eyes, UFOs in the sky, and so on and so on. But I never realized that aliens could be quite steamy, and that’s what Daemon is, he is all gorgeous!
I absolutely loved this book and managed to finish it in one sitting! Katy is constantly making up excuses for the way that Daemon acts, which I don’t blame her because of the way treats her, but their relationship begins to grow and develop. Trust me, you’ll have to be a little bit patient with their relationship because I kept saying, why don’t they do it already?! That was just one aspect that I loved, Jennifer wasn’t in a hurry for all of that to happen. I’m sure I’m not the only one that agrees when I say this, but it’s a constant push and pull between Daemon and Katy.
