Review | Drakon’s Promise by N.J. Walters

About Drakon’s Promise
Darius Varkas is a drakon. He’s neither human nor dragon.
He’s both.
He’s also the target of an ancient order who want to capture all drakons for their blood. When fresh, a drakon’s blood can cure any illness and prolong a human’s life, and the Knights will stop at nothing to get it.
When librarian Sarah Anderson stumbles across a rare book belonging to the Knights of the Dragon, she’s quickly thrust into a dangerous world of secrets and shifters and things she never would have believed possible. When the Knights realize Sarah has a secret of her own, she becomes just as much a target as Darius. Her scary dragon shifter just might be her best chance at survival.
Review
Let’s start with how much of a PNR junkie that I am and I’ve read few with dragons, but this one was a bit different. I quickly became addicted to the lore of the dragon/drakon world and was eager to learn more as the story went on.
So, what is a drakon? They are the child of a full-blooded dragon and human female, and they are only males. And sadly, they’re very limited with their kind being killed off by the Knights.
Darius and his brothers have been in hiding for many years, his brothers have managed to stay in one spot completely hidden, but Darius is constantly on the move when he feels threatened. However, he is a bit of a recluse.
Then we have Sarah, who seriously has quite the best job; she’s a research librarian that was recently hired to catalog a vast private library. Can you imagine all the amazing books this library has?! Not too long after working there, she learns why she was hired in the first place. And discovers an extremely powerful book full of evil. After one of her work days, she overhears a conversation, where Darius name is mentioned and that he’s in imminent danger. Leading with her heart, she sought out to find and warn him.
And that’s when their story begins and I love how it all unfolds for the both of them. The connection between the two is instant and with Sarah constantly weary about Darius, we see her walls slowly fall down as Darius breaks through them all. One the truth is revealed about who is actually after Darius and now Sarah, by association and the book she possesses. They’re both on the run.
I was completely hooked into this story and just wanted more. I love how Darius is very protecting and your ultimate alpha. It was great to witness the development of their relationship. They both weren’t exactly trusting and open of one another, but it was great to see them overcome that. LOVE the side characters aka his brothers and can’t wait to read the rest of the stories and learning more about each of them.
This book had everything that I love in a PNR romance and am definitely looking forward to the next installment, which I hope comes out very soon!
