Romance Schmomance | Book Review : Dirty Empire (Empire Nightclub) by K.A. Tucker

From internationally bestselling author K.A. Tucker comes the dark and sexy Empire Nightclub series

Mercy Wheeler and Gabriel Easton’s sordid tale continues in Dirty Empire as Mercy finds her loyalties tested and Gabriel’s attempt to break free of his family’s legacy comes with unexpected consequences.

Dirty Empire is the third book in the Empire Nightclub series and should be read after Sweet Mercy and Gabriel Fallen.

Dirty Empire Review

RE-READ WITH THE AUDIO: Recently re-read and went with the audiobook, definitely enjoyed this one the second time around. Ada and Alex were solid picks for this series. They’ve definitely enhanced this reading experience for me.

For a while, I thought I’ve read this series already, but it seems that I never finished it. I was gifted the audiobooks and it has really been hitting the spot for me. I thought this was the last book in this series, but went back and saw there’s one more to go. I couldn’t quite remember this one, but I definitely liked this the second time around.

I love that Nina and Gabriel are finally having to face their feelings for one another. But there are other things working against them and it’s a matter of time before it all implodes.

One more book to go and I can’t wait to finally get to their HEA. Things definitely got really tense towards the end, so it’ll be interesting to see what Gabriel will in the concluding book.

One of the best ways I could do describe Nina West’s books is devourable. They’re super quick to read, they’re steamy and absolutely bingeable. Dirty Empire is book 3 and it wasn’t too long ago that Nina mentioned this would not be the conclusion of the series, even though I knew that, it still caught me off guard a little at the end.

If Gabriel Fallen is fresh in your mind then you know how much of a killer that cliffhanger ending was. It had my mind reeling and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Thankfully things pick up right where they left off. Lives were threatened, some were lost and that has left both Mercy and Gabriel a bit off-balance, not only with each other and their “relationship” but their lives as well.

To me, this book was a little bit more serious and them trying to come to a lot of different things. And that actually had them resorting to keeping more secrets and that drove me absolutely nuts. From the beginning, their relationship formed in not the most conventional way. But they’ve spent a lot of time together and they’re starting to evaluate their feelings for one another. And of course, not expressing it at all. I was hoping for them to finally have that conversation, but there’s just a lot happening and the sense of time running out.

Towards the end, things pick up big time and some truths came out. I’m sooooo eager for the final book because I just want to know how all of this will end. And to see Mercy and Gabriel be together without a single worry. I want nothing more than for them to be in a peaceful environment. Definitely enjoyed Dirty Empire, it’s not quite my favorite out of the series, but this book was an important part of their story.

Empire Nightclub Series Review

Sweet Mercy (Dirty Empire, #1)Sweet Mercy by Nina West
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

I’ve been wanting to read under K.A. Tucker’s pen name Nina West for some time and this was a great starting point for me. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting and was hoping to see more of the mafia play into this one, but we’re only on book 1.

There is a little bit of grit, but there’s definitely a soft spot with Gabriel that I wasn’t anticipating. Not that I mind one bit 😉 I feel like there’s definitely more to know when it comes to Gabriel, but there’s storm coming his way with the secrets he’s keeping.

MERCY! I truly loved her character, willing to do anything for her father, not afraid to speak her mind and is a fighter through and through. I can’t wait to see more of her character development throughout the rest of this series.

Definitely an enjoyable read, not quite a dark romance, but there is a little bit of grit. I’m looking forward towards reading more!

Gabriel Fallen (Dirty Empire, #2)Gabriel Fallen by Nina West
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I’ve been doing an audio re-read for this series and have been enjoying them immensely the second time around. The narrators are so solid for this series and have definitely elevated the story for me.

Tucker definitely writes addicting reads! But this should be illegal with the way things ended, that was an absolute killer. Everything about Mercy and Gabriel is FIREEEEEEEEEE, I can’t get enough of these two.

I love how easy it is to devour this book, their story just begs for your attention from beginning to end. You can definitely see things changing between these two as they keep their arrangement up. In comes the jealous, which normally bugs the crap out of. But I haven’t had an issue so far with it in this series.

Gabriel Fallen was such a quick read and thank goodness we don’t have to wait long for the final book cause seriously that ending was not OK.

The mafia aspect is still a little bit lower than what I’ve read in other books, but I’m really not complaining too much. There’s definitely more than there was in the first book. But I think we’re just reaching the tip of the iceberg.

Still enjoyed the heck out of this one!

**not a standalone.
**ends with a cliffhanger
