About Breakaway

As Tampa Bay’s star center, Mark Carmelo’s life was hockey, and after a
bitter and public break up, all he wanted to do was focus on the game.
Until he saw her.
The one that got away.
The one he thought he’d never see again.
For thirteen years, Stevie West drowned in her lackluster life.
Recently divorced from her “roommate” with passionless benefits, she was ready
to start over. On her own.
Until she ran into him.
The same man she’d met one year ago.
The temptation that had finally given her the courage to find herself
again.
When lightning strikes twice, there’s no way to deny the chemistry it
creates.
But with both of them still nursing old wounds, Mark and Stevie will
have to find a way around the other’s defenses, a way to breakaway and score
the one thing they never expected… love.

 Review

Let me start off by saying that I did enjoy this read. I got a little nervous about the beginning when Mark and Stevie meet for the first time. I’d say the line was a little hazy and was very close to being crossed. There are a few no-nos when it comes to books I read, I don’t do love triangles and I hate it when there’s cheating involved especially with the main characters. And that’s when I’ll jump in and say there’s NO love triangle and PHYSICALLY there’s no cheating involved. I know everyone has their definition of what cheating is, many say it’s a physical thing. But can you emotionally cheat on someone? That’s up for you to decide.Besides that little bit, I genuinely enjoyed Mark and Stevie’s story.

Out of the two, I absolutely loved Mark the most. We got this sexy hockey player that’s amazing on the ice, but a previous relationship leaves him with insecurities. And I loved seeing that side of him, even though he was well over that relationship, he was done with love until the night he meets Stevie. Who just happens to be married at the time.

At that point, Stevie’s marriage became something of second nature. Just going through with it day after day, there was no passion. Her husband eventually just stopped fighting for her. And Stevie didn’t realize that her marriage was truly over until she met Mark.

Something happened that night, Stevie’s eyes were open to what she could have, but she was still married. The chemistry between Mark and Stevie was all over the place. Fast forward a year later, Stevie is no longer married and fate was on their side when they meet again.

Mark, Mark, Mark! I absolutely love how he treats Stevie, she’s a bit insecure about her curviness, but boy, Mark just handles her with finesse. He’s never letting her go and he sure loves worshipping her. He’s just one of those sweet and caring guys. I appreciated the low angst in this one. I think if there was too much of it, it would have definitely taken away from the story.

This is definitely one of those sweet and easy reads! I hope it’s Reagan and Bryson’s story next cause he sure intrigued the heck out of me!
