They said to be careful of the monster, but they didn’t know…
It was the monster that saved me.
The whole city called him the monster: a troubled man with demons in him clawing to get out.
His job was to ruthlessly take lives for the family.
And, yet, he saved mine.
Ever since, I was the one woman who could walk amongst the most powerful men within the Italian Mob—all except him.
To him, I didn’t belong. And he made it clear by being the monster everyone knew him to be:
Cruel, ruthless, and cold.
My gut told me to leave, but my soul wanted to stay. I gravitated toward the man no one understood because the monster in him risked it all to rescue me.
So, I opened the cage where his demons lived. I set them free.
And then I took the biggest risk:
I handed my heart to the monster to see if he’d rip it apart.
This book is the first in a duet. 80000+ words of love, angst, steam, and mafia romance. Their happily ever after will come in the next book set to release this summer.
Review
I quite enjoyed this mafia romance read, THIS is exactly how I expect mafia romances to be. I failed to do my research and didn’t realize until halfway through that this was going to be a duet. I’m just quite impatient this year, but we don’t have to wait long for the next book.
This was my first read by Shain Rose and I really like their writing. Even though I’ve been struggling with reading ebook formats, I was completely engaged. I would have had this finished in a day, but sleep always won out 😉
Honestly, I went into this read a bit blind, so I had zero expectations and wasn’t sure which direction this was going to go. I loved the chemistry between Katie and Rome, but my goodness, they drove me up the wall. There’s a lot of back and forth between them, and I struggled with the games that Katie would play. And by the end, I was sooooo nervous and just a bit heartbroken because I have no idea how things will between them. Both of their lives will probably change quite a by the next book.
Absolutely can’t wait for the conclusion to their story and hope they get the happy ever they deserve! From the explosive tension between Katie and Rome, the bits of lies strewn through the story and alllllllll the steam, totally going back to this author’s backlist.
I am adding this on my tbr. With your review, I’m convinced to pick this one up. I guess I need to wait for the second book. I don’t like cliffhangers — it’s a torture.
Malia, forever failing on doing research before starting a book lol August I believe the next book comes out.
I’d read the Stonewood Brothers series, this mafia duet is a spin-off of that one. You don’t have to read it prior, but kind of wished I did. I’ve been making connections. The MCs in this mafia one are in the Stonewood Brothers series. Book 2 is my fave 😊
