BITTEN UNDER FIRE by Heather Long
About Bitten Under Fire
Bianca Devlin’s work is her life. Now, she’s finally taking a vacation…and guerillas hit her resort to kidnap a diplomat’s son. She does the only thing that makes sense—intervene to save the child’s life. Being dragged into the jungle with a scared kid she’s determined to protect was definitely not how she saw this trip ending.
After she returns to Texas, the last person Bianca expected to see was Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo, the member of Bravo Team WOLF that helped rescue her. Nevertheless, there he is, living across the street from the house she just bought. The coincidence is alarming, but she has to admit, his presence isn’t entirely unwanted.
But there’s something off about Cage—the way he can move without a sound or the weird way his eyes seem to almost glow at times. And how can Bianca manage her growing attraction, when everything she knows about him and his reason for being there, turns out to be a lie?

Review of Bitten Under Fire
I gotta say when it comes to the authors that are published under Entangled, I have been quite a fan of their shapeshifter books I’ve come across. Even though Bitten Under Fire went a different direction than other shifter books I have read, I still found it rather enjoyable. This was a first time read from Heather Long and I have become completely entranced with her writing and Bitten Under Fire definitely won’t be the last book I’ll read by her.
Now I bet you’re wondering why I mentioned that this book went in a different direction than others I have read. To me, Bitten Under Fire felt like it was completely focused on something that Bianca was going through and the romance (of course) between Cage and her. With other shifter stories, I’m so used to them being action packed, so I think that’s what forced me to look at this book in a completely different way.
With Cage essentially being a part of a special forces team in the Marine Corps, on a rescue mission was the first time he first set eyes on Bianca. It wasn’t just her beauty that caught his eye, but her instincts to protect a child that wasn’t hers. And it was this very moment that he could probably do anything to get this woman to safety and protect her. Probably a lot longer than he bargained for, but I don’t see him complaining anytime soon.
I admired Bianca’s character so much, she was strong and I loved her complete loyalty to the child she was protecting. And I found her personality rather easy-going even if she did have tendencies to keep to herself, which made me a bit sad at times. But I loved how Cage was able to sneak into her daily routine especially since he decided to move across the street from her. As much as I would love to go into detail about why he did that, you’re just going to have to pick up your own copy and find out for yourself.
The romance between these two had an easy and natural pace, which made it totally real to me. I was hoping for more with the plot and definitely wishing for more of Cage and Bianca’s story. I felt like there’s still so much to share about them, which I hope we’ll get more off with the other books to come.
Definitely adding this series to my TBR because I’m looking forward to reading more from Heather Long.
Review of Wolf of Her Own
I’ve been a fan of N.J. Walters since her Drakon series, I’m absolutely in love with those steamy dragons, so I couldn’t pass up the chance to dive into another one of her series. And the one thing I’ve regretted before jumping into Wolf of Her Own was that I haven’t read any of the other books in this series. Even though this was standalone and you could easily fall along with who all the characters were and their relation to each other, I just wish I had a bit more background about all of them. I think it would have helped me more with the story. So I’ll definitely be visiting the other wolves in this series!
I couldn’t tell you the last time I’ve read a book where the couple was older, even though they’re both in their 60s, being wolves they definitely don’t look it. Apparently, that’s when they’re in their prime! Mikhail and Elise are characters you will both love, it was such a sight to see the love grow between these two even though Mikhail probably fell in love the first time he saw Elise. After months of keeping his distance, Elise forces him to make his presence known in front of her. And that’s when their story takes off.
Elise hasn’t had the best experience with having a mate and she has major hangups about being with another man, the only thing her a-hole of an ex-mate gave her was her sons. Being in an abusive relationship with their father, it would be a while into she was mentally and emotionally ready for anything. And I loved Mikhail’s absolutely sweet and caring nature he had towards her, plus his patience with her will make any man or woman swoon over him. It was so evident from the beginning that not even her sons could get in the way of him caring for their mom.
I really admired Elise, she’s a survivor and was definitely stronger for it by the end of the book. It wasn’t easy for her to break down those walls and it was totally understandable, her personal journey was an honest one. And she had a patient man beside her the entire way.
Such an enjoyable read that solely focused on the romance of the couple and definitely made me want to read about the rest of characters in this series!
