Synopsis

On the run across America from a vengeful shape-shifter, Bannerman “Bann” Boru has only one thing on his mind: keeping himself and his young son, Cor, alive.

At any cost.

Until he meets Shay Doyle, healer and member of a secret group of immortal Celtic warriors, the Tuatha De Danaan, living in modern-day Colorado. When Cor is injured, Bannerman is forced to accept her help. He quickly realizes that the golden-haired Healer is shield-maiden tough and can hold her own on the field of battle with the big boys. And Shay soon discovers that there is more to Bann than meets the eye.

Now, with the shape-shifter Cernunnos teaming up with the local pack of Fir Bolgs (Goth wannabes with a nasty taste for children), Bannerman, Shay, her wolf-dog, Max, and the rest of the Doyle clan must figure out how to battle one insane god.

Review

If you haven’t noticed, I’ve been on quite the paranormal quick. If you didn’t know, paranormal is my absolute favorite, so I didn’t hesitate to get on board on reading The Stag Lord. I was completely intrigued the book synopsis, so curiosity got the best of me.

I can’t quite recall a book where it really went deep with the father-son dynamic, but it was definitely one of my favorite aspects of this book. Bannerman Boru has lost all hope in the fae (his people) because of their inability to be there for him, when he really needed them. Ever since that lifce-changing moment, him and his son, Cor, have been on the road, running. With Bann and Cor being the last of their lineage, Bann will go at all costs to protect his son, even if Bann has to constantly face danger to keep him safe.
After an incident and injury, they cross paths with Shay, who just happens to be a healer among other things. Bann is completely cautious and puts up these walls of security because his son’s safety is his #1 goal.
I loved all the character dynamics in this book! Bann is fiercely protective, witty, and downright loving when it comes to his son. And Cor, bless his heart and you’ll see why, when you get yourhands on this book. You’ll love him instantly, he’s a little warrior and has faced so much in his 8 years of life. Shay Doyle, all I have to say about her is, “You go, sister!” … she’s a badass and you all know how much I love a badass female! The dialogue between Bann and Shay is pure comedy, I can’t even tell you how many times that I re-read some of the passages to get another laugh.
Everything felt right about the book, the story was well-written, I was completely drawn in the entire time, got the action-pack that I need and the love! I’m a fan and just need MORE, I definitely can’t wait to see what’s next in this series!
MY RATING // 4.5
