After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.
The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.
The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

Review
I’m honestly still processing this well-written story of forgiveness and healing. There’s no doubt that Colleen writes beautifully written books and while I miss her older books, and wished we’d get back there. I saw Reminders of Him circulating and curiosity got the best of me. With not really reading the women’s fiction genre, this was a solid 4 for me.
I can’t even imagine being in such a tough situation. A single mistake that changed sooo many lives and even after 5 years, the wounds are still very much open.
My heart broke over and over for Kenna. Grief after grief and so many regrets. And now wants to move forward in hopes of having a relationship with her daughter. But my goodness, the barriers she’d have to get through to finally have that moment was not a simple one. Soooo many tears were shed, but I had hope for her because well, I had to.
And then we have sweet Ledger, he is absolutely everything. A man soo loyal to his family even when his heart is calling to another, and just wants to bring her into the fold. It nearly rips you apart to see all the tough positions every character is in.
Being the romance lover that I am, I craved more of that and will always beg for more. But in Reminders of Him, it’s not the sole focus, which is something that I expected since Colleen’s books no longer have a strong romance plot.
I absolutely devoured this, Colleen has always written in a way that completely captivates you. And this will resonate with so many.

My Favorite Books by Colleen Hoover

I haven’t read her books in years because I felt like her books got a tad bit trauma porny later on. Did this one feel like it had drama just for the sake of drama too? I do really love the sound of Ledger as a character.
To me, no. The situation itself is already a tough one all around and anything extra would have been probably too much. It’s dual POV too.
I only read the first paragraph or so because I am starting this one tonight, but I didn’t realize it was women’s fiction. I thought Hoover said it was romance? I’m probably mistaken, though. I do miss the style of her earlier romances, but I guess everyone ages and grows.
Okay, SO! I had a conversation with a friend of mine that does read women’s fiction and she classified it as such. I don’t read it normally, but she was the one that actually convinced me to read it. While there is a romance taking place in the story, it’s not the main focus. I see it as more of a blend between the two, which is what I feel like Colleen writes more of, now. If this makes any sense?
That makes sense. I’m about 35% in. I guess what throws me off is the male POV. I don’t normally think of Women’s Fiction as having one, but I’m sure some do.
That’s why I kind of go with a blend of the two, but definitely don’t quote me on that because I don’t usually read women’s fiction. Definitely can’t wait to hear your thoughts after you’re done!
I would say after reading it that it was definitely a blend of the two. I wanted to say it was a romance because the romance drove the story forward where it wouldn’t have gone without it, but Kenna’s wish to reunite with her daughter drove her forward. But then you had Ledger’s POV which was kind of a mixture of emotions and things. I don’t know. If the book had a relationship status to describe the genre it would be “It’s complicated.”
It’s complicated is the perfect description because there’s not a definite genre for this, yet. I feel like there will be, maybe?
Maybe?
